ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of artesunate on Th1 differentiation and its anti-tumor effect on ovarian cancer. A Murine ovarian cancer model was established by ID8 cells transplantation. The expression of miR-142 and Sirt1 proteins in peripheral CD4+ T cells were quantified with qRT-PCR and western blot, respectively. Peripheral CD4+ T cells were induced for Th1 differentiation. The percentages of apoptosis of Th1/CD4+ T cells and ovarian cancer cells were analyzed by flow cytometry. The IFN-γ level was examined through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Artesunate promoted miR-142 expression in peripheral CD4+ T cells and Th1 differentiation from CD4+ T cells. Artesunate promoted cell apoptosis of ovarian cancer cells by inducing Th1 differentiation. By up-regulating miR-142, artesunate suppressed Sirt1 level and promoted Th1 differentiation. Artesunate enhanced the pro-apoptotic effects of Th1 cells on ovarian cancer via the miR-142/Sirt1 pathway. Artesunate promoted Th1 differentiation from CD4+ T cells by down-regulating Sirt1 through miR-142, thereby enhancing cell apoptosis in ovarian cancer.

ABSTRACT

Abstract Background: Adaptive immune cells, including CD4+CD69+ and CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ regulatory T (Treg) cells, are important for maintaining immunological tolerance. In human systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ Treg cells are reduced, whereas CD69 expression is increased, resulting in a homeostatic immune imbalance that may intensify autoreactive T cell activity. To analyze the mechanisms implicated in autotolerance failure, we evaluated CD4+CD69+ and CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ T cells and interleukin profiles in a pristane-induced SLE experimental model. Methods: For lupus induction, 26 female Balb/c mice received a single intraperitoneal 0.5 ml dose of pristane, and 16 mice received the same dose of saline. Blood and spleen samples were collected from euthanized mice 90 and 120 days after pristane or saline inoculation. Mononuclear cells from peripheral blood (PBMC), peritoneal lavage (PL) and splenocytes were obtained by erythrocyte lysis and cryopreserved for further evaluation by flow cytometry using the GuavaEasyCyte TM HT. After thawing, cells were washed and stained with monoclonal antibodies against CD3, CD4, CD8, CD25, CD28, CD69, FoxP3, CD14 and Ly6C (BD Pharmingen TM). Interleukins were quantified using Multiplex® MAP. The Mann-Whitney test and the Pearson coefficient were used for statistical analysis, and p < 0.05 considered significant. Results: Compared with the controls, SLE-induced animals presented increased numbers of CD4+CD69+ T cells in the blood on T90 and T120 (p = 0.022 and p = 0.008) and in the spleen on T120 (p = 0.049), but there were decreased numbers in the PL (p = 0.049) on T120. The percentage of Treg was lower in blood (p < 0.005 and p < 0.012) on T90 and T120, in spleen (p = 0.043) on T120 and in PL (p = 0.001) on T90. Increased numbers of CD4+ CD69+ T cells in the PL were positively associated with high IL-2 (p = 0.486) and IFN-γ (p = 0.017) levels, whereas reduced Treg cells in the blood were negatively correlated with TNFα levels (p = 0.043) and positively correlated with TGFβ1 (p = 0.038). Conclusion: Increased numbers of CD4+CD69+ T cells and reduced numbers of CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ Treg cells with an altered interleukin profile suggests loss of autotolerance in pristane-induced lupus mice, which is similar to human lupus. Therefore, this model is useful in evaluating mechanisms of cellular activation, peripheral tolerance and homeostatic immune imbalance involved in human SLE.

Abstract This study was about a semi-quantitative analysis of T lymphocytes (CD4+ and CD8+, FoxP3+ regulatory T cells), and macrophages in the gut wall of dogs naturally infected with Leishmania infantum. Thirteen dogs were divided into three groups: group 1 (G1, n=5), dogs with canine visceral leishmaniasis (CVL) and infected with L. infantum amastigotes in the intestine; group 2 (G2, n=5), dogs with CVL but without intestinal amastigotes; and group 3 (G3, n=3), uninfected dogs (control group). There was no significant difference (p ≥ 0.05) on CD4+ and Treg cell numbers among the groups, whereas the levels of CD8+ T cells and macrophages were significantly higher in dogs from G1 group than in G2 and G3 (p ≤ 0.05), especially in intestinal segments with high parasite burden. Parasite burden correlated positively with levels of CD8+ T cells and macrophages (p ≤ 0.05), but was inversely correlated to levels of CD4+ T lymphocytes and FoxP3+ Treg cells. In conclusion, in the intestine of dogs with CVL, the increase of CD8+ T cells and macrophages population associated with high parasite burdens, but no changes of CD4+ T cells and FoxP3+ Treg cells suggest a possible immunoregulation by the parasite not dependent on Treg cells.


Resumo Este estudo foi uma análise semi-quantitativa de linfócitos T (CD4+, CD8+ e regulatórios - Treg FoxP3+) e macrófagos na parede intestinal de cães naturalmente infectados com Leishmania infantum. Treze cães foram divididos em três grupos: grupo 1 (G1, n=5) continha cães com leishmaniose visceral canina (LVC) e com amastigotas intestinais; grupo 2 (G2, n=5) continha cães com LVC, mas sem amastigotas intestinais e o grupo 3 (G3, n=3) continha cães não infectados (grupo controle). Verificou-se que não houve diferença significativa (p ≤ 0.05) no número de células CD4+ e de Treg entre os grupos, mas o número de células T CD8+ e macrófagos foi significativamente superior nos cães do grupo G1 em relação ao G2 e ao G3 (p ≤ 0,05), especialmente nos segmentos intestinais com altas cargas parasitárias. As altas cargas parasitarias correlacionaram positivamente com os números de CD8+ e macrófagos (p ≤ 0,05), mas negativamente com as células CD4+ e Treg. Em conclusão, no intestino dos cães com LVC, o aumento das populações de células T CD8+ e de macrófagos associado a altas cargas parasitárias, mas nenhuma alteração de células T CD4+ e células Treg FoxP3+ sugerem uma possível imunorregulação pelo parasita não dependente de células Treg.

ABSTRACT

Intestinal obstruction leads to blockage of the movement of intestinal contents. After relieving the obstruction, patients might still suffer with compromised immune function and nutritional deficiency. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Sijunzi decoction on restoring the immune function and nutritional status after relieving the obstruction. Experimental rabbits (2.5±0.2 kg) were randomly divided into normal control group, 2-day intestinal obstruction group, 2-day natural recovery group, 4-day natural recovery group, 2-day treated group, and 4-day treated group. Sijunzi decoction was given twice a day to the treated groups. The concentration of markers was analyzed to evaluate the immune function and nutritional status. The concentration of interleukin-2, immunoglobulins and complement components of the treated groups were significantly higher than the natural recovery group (P<0.05). The levels of CD4+ and CD4+/CD8+ increased then decreased in the treated groups. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α and CD8+ were significantly lower than the natural recovery group. The level of total protein in the treated groups also increased then decreased after relieving the obstruction. The levels of albumin, prealbumin and insulin-like growth factor-1 were significantly higher in the treated groups than in the natural recovery group (P<0.05). Transferrin level in the treated groups was significantly higher than the obstruction group (P<0.05). Sijunzi decoction can lessen the inflammatory response and improve the nutrition absorption after relieving the obstruction.

ABSTRACT

Poor retention in care (RIC) is associated with higher antiretroviral therapy (ART) failure and worse survival. Identifying high risk patients for poor RIC is important for targeted intervention. A retrospective cohort study was conducted at a tertiary care hospital in Korea. HIV-infected patients initiating ART during 2002-2008 were included. 5 year-RIC was measured by hospital visit constancy (HVC) at 5 years after initiating ART. Among 247 enrolled patients, 179 (72.5%) remained in care, 20 (8.1%) were transferred to other hospitals, 9 (3.6%) died and 39 (15.8%) were lost to follow-up. We compared the demographic, psychosocial, and clinical characteristics between the groups with 100% HVC (n = 166, 67.2%) and 50; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.10-15.15, P = 0.036), no non-HIV related comorbidity (OR 2.94 vs. comorbidity > or = 1; 95% CI 1.02-8.49, P = 0.046), baseline CD4 cell count > 300 cells/muL (OR 3.58 vs. < or = 200; 95% CI 1.33-9.65, P = 0.012) were significant predictable factors of poor RIC. HIV/AIDS care-givers should pay attention to young patients with higher baseline CD4 cell counts and no non-HIV related comorbidity.

ABSTRACT

Analysis of the T-cell receptor (TCR) repertoire of innate CD4+ T cells selected by major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II-dependent thymocyte-thymocyte (T-T) interaction (T-T CD4+ T cells) is essential for predicting the characteristics of the antigens that bind to these T cells and for distinguishing T-T CD4+ T cells from other types of innate T cells. Using the TCRmini Tg mouse model, we show that the repertoire of TCRalpha chains in T-T CD4+ T cells was extremely diverse, in contrast to the repertoires previously described for other types of innate T cells. The TCRalpha chain sequences significantly overlapped between T-T CD4+ T cells and conventional CD4+ T cells in the thymus and spleen. However, the diversity of the TCRalpha repertoire of T-T CD4+ T cells seemed to be restricted compared with that of conventional CD4+ T cells. Interestingly, the frequency of the parental OT-II TCRalpha chains was significantly reduced in the process of T-T interaction. This diverse and shifted repertoire in T-T CD4+ T cells has biological relevance in terms of defense against diverse pathogens and a possible regulatory role during peripheral T-T interaction.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: This study was done to evaluate the effects of psychosocial interventions on cortisol and immune response in adult patients with cancer. METHODS: MEDLINE via PubMed, Cochrane Library CENTRAL, EMBASE, CINAHL and domestic electronic databases were searched. Twenty controlled trials (11 randomized and 9 non-randomized trials) met the inclusion criteria with a total of 862 participants. Methodological quality was assessed using the Cochrane's Risk of Bias for randomized studies and the Risk of Bias Assessment tool for non randomized studies. Data were analyzed using the RevMan 5.2.11 program of Cochrane library. RESULTS: Overall, study quality was moderate to high. The weighted average effect size across studies was -0.32 (95% CI [-0.56, -0.07], p=.010, I2=45%) for cortisol concentration, -0.62 (95%CI [-0.96,-0.29], p<.001, I2=0%) for T lymphocyte (CD3) and -0.45 (95%CI [-0.74, -0.16], p=.003, I2=0%) for Th lymphocyte (CD4) numbers. Psychosocial interventions were not effective for Tc lymphocyte (CD4), NK cell, monocyte, and cytokine response. CONCLUSION: Although these results provide only small evidence of successful immune modulation, they support the conclusion that psychosocial interventions can assist cancer patients in reducing emotional distress and improving immune response.

ABSTRACT

Perianal diseases are the most common reasons for surgery in HIV-positive patients. This study aimed to evaluate the outcomes of these surgical procedures in Korean patients, focusing on wound healing and postoperative complications. Retrospective analysis was performed on 72 HIV-positive patients who underwent surgery by a single surgeon for benign anal disease between 1998 and 2011. Of these, 68.1% (49/72) of patients received surgery for condyloma acuminata, 19.4% (14/72) for anal fistulas, 6.9% (5/72) for hemorrhoids, and 5.6% (4/72) for perianal abscesses. Patients with condyloma acuminata received surgical excision with electrical coagulation, and all wounds healed completely within 3 months, though 16.3% (8/49) of these patients experienced recurrence. Twelve of the 49 patients (24.5%) who were treated for condyloma acuminata underwent simultaneous operations for concomitant anal fistulas (n = 6), hemorrhoids (n = 4), and perianal abscesses (n = 2). Overall, 3 postoperative complications developed following a total of 94 procedures, and there was no significant increase in complication rate for patients with a low CD4+ T-cell count ( < 200/microL) compared to those with a higher count. The results demonstrate favorable results following perianal surgery in HIV-positive Korean patients.

ABSTRACT

The clinical features of HIV/AIDS-related ocular manifestations in Korean patients were investigated in this study. Data on 200 consecutive Korean patients diagnosed with AIDS who visited the Seoul National University Hospital from January 2003 to June 2008 were reviewed. Fifty-seven patients (28.5%) had ocular manifestations, and they showed significantly lower CD4+ T cell count than patients without ocular manifestations. Among them, 23 (40.3%) patients showed retinal microvasculopathy, and 22 (38.5%) patients showed cytomegalovirus (CMV) retinitis. Other manifestations included retinal vein occlusion (n = 4), herpes zoster ophthalmicus (n = 4), syphilitic uveitis (n = 2), acute retinal necrosis (n = 1), and progressive outer retinal necrosis (n = 1). The mean CD4+ lymphocyte counts of the patients with retinal microvasculopathy and cytomegalovirus retinitis were 108.5 cells/microL and 69.4 cells/microL, respectively. In conclusion, ocular manifestations including CMV retinitis are common complications in Korean patients with AIDS even in the era of highly active anti-retroviral therapy. Compared to previous reports in western countries, prevalence of CMV retinitis is relatively low and CD4+ lymphocytes count at the time of diagnosis is relatively high.

ABSTRACT

During antigen capture and processing, mature dendritic cells [DC] express large amounts of peptide-MHC complexes and accessory molecules on their surface. DC are antigen-presenting cells that have an important role in tolerance and autoimmunity. The transforming growth factor-beta 1 [TGF-beta1] cytokine has a regulatory role on the immune and non-immune cells. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of TGF-beta1 on the induction of human leukocyte antigen-G [HLA-G] expression on the DC which is derived from monocyte. Methods: In this study, we evaluated the effect of TGF-beta1 in induction HLA-G expression on the monocyte-derived DC by flowcytometry and then CD4[+] T cell proliferative responses in the presence of DC-treated TGF-[beta1] was studied. Results: The results of this study showed that DC bearing HLA-G down-regulated activation of CD4[+] T cells and production of IL-6 and IL-17 in comparison with control [P<0.05]. Conclusion: It is concluded that TGF-beta1 has an important regulatory role in CD4[+] T cell proliferation by increasing HLA-G on DC and these cells can probably prevent unexpected immune responses in vivo

ABSTRACT

CD4+ T lymphocytes play a major role in regulation of adaptive immunity. Upon activation, naive T cells differentiate into different functional subsets. In addition to the classical Th1 and Th2 cells, several novel effector T cell subsets have been recently identified, including Th17 cells. There has been rapid progress in characterizing the development and function of Th17 cells. Here I summarize and discuss on the genetic controls of their differentiation and emerging evidence on their plasticity. This information may benefit understanding and treating immune diseases.

Background & objective: DCs trigger both innate and adaptive immune responses to control HIV infection and represent a viral reservoir acting as target and HIV carriers for infection of permissive CD4+ T-cells. DCs thus form a very attractive study subject to further our existing knowledge of HIV induced immunopathogenesis due to its diverse and crucial role in HIV infection establishment, viral dissemination, immune evasion, viral persistence, etc. We aimed to characterize the effect of HIV infection on myeloid and plasmacytoid dendritic cell subsets in a group of HIV-1 subtype C infected treated or untreated Indian individuals. Methods: Blood DC subset numbers and immunophenotype were studied for 79 HIV infected subjects at various stages of disease and compared with 13 HIV-uninfected controls. Comparisons were also made between groups of subjects based on their CD4+ T cell counts and also experience of antiretrovirals. Results: Significant decreases were observed in blood DC counts and the two DC subsets in HIV infected individuals. Subjects with lowest CD4+ T cell counts also had a drastically reduced DC subset pool which correlated positively with plasma viraemia and negatively with CD4+ T cell counts. DC subsets from HIV infected subjects showed higher expression of co-stimulatory molecules CD40 and CD86, and HIV-1 co-receptors CXCR4 and CCR5 which correlated positively with HIV-1 plasma viraemia. The alterations in blood DCs were partly resolved in ART receiving study subjects. Interpretation & conclusions: Correlation between DC subset activation state and viraemia supports the role of DC activation on viral replication and CD4+ T cell depletion.

ABSTRACT

4-1BB, a member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor (TNFR) superfamily, is a major costimulatory receptor that is rapidly expressed on the surface of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells after antigen- or mitogen-induced activation. The interaction of 4-1BB with 4-1BBL regulates immunity and promotes the survival and expansion of activated T cells. In this study, the expression of 4-1BB and 4-1BBL was examined during regeneration of the murine thymus following acute cyclophosphamide-induced involution. Four-color flow cytometry showed that 4-1BB and 4-1BBL were present in the normal thymus and were preferentially expressed in the regenerating thymus, mainly in CD4+CD8+ double-positive (DP) thymocytes. Furthermore, the CD4loCD8lo, CD4+CD8lo and CD4loCD8+ thymocyte subsets, representing stages of thymocyte differentiation intermediate between DP and single-positive (SP) thymocytes, also expressed 4-1BB and 4-1BBL during thymus regeneration but to a lesser degree. Interestingly, the 4-1BB and 4-1BBL positive cells among the CD4+CD8+ DP thymocytes present during thymus regeneration were TCR(hi) and CD69+ unlike the corresponding controls. Moreover, the 4-1BB and 4-1BBL positive cells among the intermediate subsets present during thymus regeneration also exhibited TCRhi/int and CD69+/int phenotypes, indicating that 4-1BB and 4-1BBL are predominantly expressed by the positively selected population of the CD4+CD8+ DP and the intermediate thymocytes during thymus regeneration. RT-PCR and Western blot analyses confirmed the presence and elevated levels of 4-1BB and 4-1BBL mRNA and protein in thymocytes during thymus regeneration. We also found that the interaction of 4-1BB with 4-1BBL promoted thymocyte adhesion to thymic epithelial cells. Our results suggest that 4-1BB and 4-1BBL participate in T lymphopoiesis associated with positive selection during recovery from acute thymic involution.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: We investigated the characteristics of the mononuclear cells remaining in the leukoreduction system (LRS) chambers of Trima Accel(R) in comparison with those of standard buffy coat cells, and evaluated their potential for differentiation into dendritic cells. METHODS: Twenty-six LRS chambers of Trima Accel(R) were collected after platelet pheresis from healthy adults. Flow cytometric analysis for T, B, NK, and CD14+ cells was performed and the number of CD34+ cells was counted. Differentiation and maturation into dendritic cells were induced using CD14+ cells seperated via Magnetic cell sorting (MACS(R)) Seperation (Miltenyi Biotec Inc., USA). RESULTS: Total white blood cell (WBC) count in LRS chambers was 10.8x108 (range 7.7-18.0x108). The median values (range) of proportions of each cells were CD4+ T cell 29.6% (18.7-37.6), CD8+ T cell 27.7% (19.2-40.0), B cell 5.5% (2.2-12.1), NK cell 15.7% (13.7-19.9), and CD14+ cells 12.4% (8.6-32.3) respectively. Although total WBC count was significantly higher in the buffy coat (whole blood of 400 mL) than the LRS chambers, the numbers of lymphocytes and monocytes were not statistically different. The numbers of B cells and CD4+ cells were significantly higher in the buffy coat than the LRS chambers (P<0.05). The median value (range) of CD34+ cells obtained from the LRS chambers was 0.9x10(6) (0.2-2.6x10(6)). After 7 days of cytokine-supplemented culture, the CD14+ cells were successfully differentiated into dendritic cells. CONCLUSIONS: The mononuclear cells in LRS chambers of Trima Accel(R) are an excellent alternative source of viable and functional human blood cells, which can be used for research purposes.

ABSTRACT

Blockade of signal 1 or 2 for T-cell activation by the use of anti-CD45RB and anti-CD154 monoclonal antibodies (mAb) (two-signal blockade) has been proven effective in preventing or delaying graft rejection. However, the mechanisms of its immunomodulatory effects are clearly unknown and the present studies were performed to determine how the two-signal blockade modulate allogeneic immune responses, especially T-cell mediated cellular immunity, in a murine skin allograft model. We now report on the profound inhibition of alloreactive T cells by two-signal blockade via CD4-dependent mechanisms. C57BL/6 mice of BALB/c skin allograft were treated with anti-CD45RB, anti-CD154, CTLA4-Ig, or their combinations. For depletion of CD4 or CD8 T cells, the recipients received CD4-depleting or CD8-depleting mAb. We confirmed that survival of skin allograft was markedly prolongated in the two-signal blockade-treated group. In depletion study, anti-CD45RB, anti-CD154 and CD4-depleting mAb-treated group showed acute rejection of skin allograft in contrast to CD8-depleting group treated with the two-signal blockade. In the group treated with the two-signal blockade, the proportions of CD4+CD45RB(low)and CD8+CTLA-4 regulatory T cells were increased while effector CD8+ T cells, including IFN-gamma-secreting and CD8+CD62L(low)T cells, were decreased when compared with non-treated group. In contrast, the CD4-depleted group treated with the two-signal blockade resulted in recovery from immunoregulatory effects of two-signal blockade. In addition, results of IL-4 and IL-10 production were also showed CD4-dependence. Therefore, the two-signal blockade is accompanied by CD4-dependent mechanisms in allogeneic skin transplantation.

ABSTRACT

4-1BB, a transmembrane molecule, member of the tumor necrosis factor receptor superfamily, is an important costimulatory molecule in the immune response, plays a key role in the clonal expansion and survival of CD8(+)T cells. In this study, we investigated 4-1BB regulation of CD4(+)T cell responses using 4-1BB transgenic (TG) mice that constitutively expressed 4-1BB on mature T cells. We first showed that CD4(+)T cells of 4-1BB TG mice had more sustained proliferative capacity in response to TCR/4-1BB stimulation in vitro compared to WT mice. Secondly, 4-1BB TG mice exhibited a more elevated contact hypersensitivity (CHS) response mediated by CD4+ Th1 cells due to more vigorous expansion of and apoptotic inhibition of CD4(+)T cells. Finally, CD4(+)T cells of 4-1BB TG mice had a heightened capacity for T cell priming. Overall, our results demonstrate the involvement of 4-1BB in CD4(+)Th1 cell responses by regulating the clonal expansion and survival of CD4(+)T cells as seen in CD8(+)T cells.

ABSTRACT

La determinación de células T CD4+ y CD8+ por citometría de flujo es uno de los métodos de laboratorio de mayor utilidad en el manejo de los pacientes infectados con los virus de la inmunodeficiencia humana; sin embargo, su complejidad técnica e instrumental y su elevado costo han limitado su empleo, lo que ha llevado a la búsqueda de tecnologías alternativas lo suficientemente precisas y costo-efectivas como para poder emplearlas en cualquier nivel de atención médica. En este trabajo, el estudio de una de estas tecnologías alternativas la citometría capilar volumétrica (Equipo IMAGN 2000, Imagin Co) comparada con la citometría de flujo (equipo Epics Profile II, Coulter Co), en la determinación de subpoblaciones linfocitarias CD4+ y CD8+ en 29 pacientes con SIDA, mostró en términos de precisión y reproducibilidad 100 por ciento de correlación en los resultados obtenidos con ambos métodos en los niveles de células CD4+ y CD8+. La citometría capilar volumétrica demostró ser una alternativa precisa, totalmente automatizada, sencilla en su manejo, sobre todo para clínicas y hospitales que habitualmente no realizan citometría de flujo

ABSTRACT

The present study was conducted in order to investigate the immunologic alterations alongside the numerical changes in peripheral blood lymphocytes(PBL) and their subsets in stomach cancer patients. Lymphocyte surface markers were determined in 85 stomach cancer patients and 49 controls by indirect immunofluorescence technique using monoclonal antibodies. Monoclonal antibodies used were Leu 2a(CD8, suppressor/cytotoxic T cells), Leu 3a(CD4, inducer/helper T cells), Leu 4(CD3, pan T reagent), Leu 11(CD16, natural killer cells) and Leu 12(CD19, B cells). The numbers of PBL, CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD16+ and CD19+ cells significantly decreased and the CD4: CD8 value increased in 85 patients with stomach cancer compared to those in controls(p < 0.01). In stage I(n = 17), neither PBL, their subsets nor the CD4: CD8 value were significantly different from those of the controls. In stage II(n = 17), the numbers of PBL, CD3+, CD4+ and CD8+ cells decreased(p < 0.01). In stage III(n = 24) and IV(n = 27), PBL and all subsets measured decreased(p < 0.01). The CD4: CD8 value showed significant increases in stages III and IV(p < 0.01), because the CD8+ cells decreased to a greater extent than did the CD4+ cells. The results demonstrating that the lymphocyte subsets are depressed differentially with the stage suggest that host immunity is impaired with the progression of stomach cancer.
